StyleBoard: I'm A Veronica

No part of me claims to be a fashionista - I live in Penneys' finest (or Primark to you non-Irish folk), constantly turn to band shirts on a lazy day and high heels weren't in my vocabulary until last year. I'm coming to the tail end of an internship with a fashion magazine, and in my time I've come to love looking at the trends, ways to style statement pieces, and the whole visual element of what we call fashion. I still can't tell my Giambattista Valli from my Gucci in a majority of cases, but I've found myself being on the pulse of trends more than ever.

While I could never be as daring as to wear a Cinderella-blue ruffled skirt with a matching blazer (complete with overly structured shoulder pads), we could all take a leaf out of Veronica's book. She's definitely one of my ultimate style crushes, and I'll take any excuse to blabber on about how badass Veronica is while looking like she walked straight out of a Tiffany music video. Without further ado, I present my top Veronica Sawyer inspired outfits. They might be a little out there, but like Veronica's bad boy JD once said, 'the extreme always seems to make an impression'.

Veronica's voyage to the Remington Party alongside Heather Duke sees our heroine show a little skin for the first time. The outfit is a lot more relaxed than Veronica is, even though it's a more revealing affair than her usual blazer / skirt combo. Bardot tops, or off-shoulder to the uninitiated, have become a staple on the racks of most stores since SS17, and aren't going away any time soon. Pinafores aren't just for little girls anymore, either - Primark and Boohoo are reinventing the apron-style dress into a night out staple.

Let's be honest - the Heathers' style was peak 80's. Nothing really matched, the patterns and colours were louder than they were, but everything was still somewhat uniform. Compared to her clique, Veronica's outfits were slightly more toned down and refined. Favouring blacks over crimson reds and aquamarine blues, most of her outfits consisted of one bright pop of colour with a lowkey 'out there' pattern. Textured and patterned blazers are front and centre on H&M, Topshop and Boohoo's sites amongst a million and one others, showing the former office staple has made it's way into the mainstream style stakes in a major way. Teamed with a crisp white blouse adored with a pop of contrast and a midi skirt, you too can look good enough to play croquet at Veronica's house.

Veronica's style can be described as a comfy-casual, especially after meeting JD. Her hair relaxes a little, she goes a bit more bare faced, and she isn't dressing to impress (as much) anymore. The Heathers' impact on her is clear in multiple ways, but the influence on her style is definitely palpable as she ditches her former clique. The bralette / crop top she wears has been in style for years now, with oversized blazers and ruffles to boot have been infiltrating the high street too.
